One of the attractions of a flat-screen TV is that’s more flexible in where and how it can be mounted. By putting a TV on the wall, you free up a lot of space that would otherwise be wasted by a floor stand. Choosing a wall mount can be tricky, though, so Expert Reviews contributing editor Ian Morris takes a look at six of the best option available.

Technomate TM-3260 Motorised TV Wall

Technomate TM-3260 Motorised TV Wall

eBay loves: Being able to move the TV from the sofa is great
Watch out for: Expensive
RRP: £200

Technomate is well known for making high-quality satellite receivers, but its TM-3260 Motorised TV Wall allows you to motorise your TV and control it via remote control from your sofa. That’s useful because it’s easier to get the TV into the best position for your seating position if you’re sat there while moving the mount. You get 30 degrees of moment each way, too, and the TM-3260 can hold TVs up to 35kg.

Invision Slim TV Wall Bracket

Invision Slim TV Wall Bracket

eBay loves: A good price for a flexible mount
Watch out for: Invision makes loads of mounts, so make sure you get the right model
RRP: £38

Invision makes a number of wall mounts to suit different TV makes and models, so you’ll need to check compatibility before buying — the TV’s weight and VESA-mount (the brackets at the rear of the set) measurements are the two important factors. Invision’s Slim TV Wall Bracket also allows you to adjust the angle at which the TV points by 10 degrees, which is handy if you want it mounted higher on the wall, tilted down at your viewing position. It also has a large number of VESA mount options, so it should fit most TVs.

Watch out for: Can be inflexible if you change your room layout
RRP: £55

For those who want to mount their TV flat against the wall and don’t need to change the angle or position of the screen, the Sanus Deluxe Flat is ideal. It can support weights up to 59kg, too, which should cater for most sets, and the 10-year warranty is a handy extra.

Vogels Thin RC 355

Vogels Thin RC 355

eBay loves: Great movement and motorised, too
Watch out for: Only compatible with thin TVs
RRP: £250

It’s not cheap, but the Vogels Thin RC 355 is pretty much the Rolls Royce of wall mounts. Firstly, it’s motorised, which means you can turn the TV 30 degrees in either direction. There are also programmable positions that allow you to set your TV up for your favourite viewing locations. Also included are cable ducts that allow you to connect all your equipment neatly and the mount can support weights up to 25kg, which is enough for a 65-inch TV.

Mountech Motion Maxi

Mountech Motion Maxi

eBay loves: 20-degree motion makes this mount one of the most flexible
Watch out for: High RRP, but cheaper online
RRP: £200

If you’ve got an older plasma TV that weighs a lot, then the Mountech Motion Maxi is the mount to consider. It can support weights up to a staggering 70kg and, considering the 50-inch Panasonic Kuro HDTV weighs only 35kg, that’s pretty impressive. You can also tilt your TV by up to 20 degrees, which will be handy for those mounting above a fireplace. Construction quality on this mount is also second to none, which gives owners of expensive TVs some serious reassurance.

Allcam PLB103M

Allcam PLB103M

eBay loves: Great price
Watch out for: Not the most flexible of wall mounts
RRP: £16

The Allcam PLB103M proves you don’t need to spend a fortune on a wall mount. It’s fairly basic in terms of what it offers in terms of movement, so this is really for people who just want to mount a flat TV against a wall and leave it in place. Even though it’s not the most flexible, you still get 15 degrees of tilt adjustment and, even more impressively, the mount can support weights up to 60kg and 55-inch TVs.
