The best mobile phone travel chargers

Like if this guide is helpful
Smartphones have changed the world for the better, but the days when a mobile would last a week on a single charge are long gone and you’ll be lucky if most current models last for a day or two of use. The solution is to have lots of options for charging your handset while you’re out and about, especially when you’re on holiday, when access to mains might be more of a challenge than usual.
Ian Morris, Expert Reviews contributing editor, takes a look at the ways you can charge your phone and keep it topped up while you see the world.

Veetop Dual USB Car Charger

Veetop Dual USB Car Charger

eBay loves: Enough power to charge pretty much any phone or tablet
Watch out for: Might not fit into all car sockets
RRP: £12

Car chargers can be a pain and sometimes don’t provide enough power to charge a larger phone like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. You should have no such problems with the Veetop Dual USB Car Charger, though, which claims to be able to charge pretty much anything on the market. The added bonus is that it also has two USB ports, so you can charge two devices at once.

Mophie Powerstation Pro

Mophie Powerstation Pro

eBay loves: Rugged and enough to power to charge your phone fully from flat
Watch out for: Very expensive
RRP: £88

While it’s not the cheapest battery pack available, the Mophie Powerstation Pro is capable of charging pretty much anything. It’s also water-resistant, making it ideal for beach holidays and the average British summer. The 6000mAh battery should give you two full charges on an iPhone, too, which is very handy if you’re away from mains power for a long time.

ABC Products USB Travel Adaptor

ABC Products USB Travel Adaptor

eBay loves: Versatile and compact charger
Watch out for: Won’t work in every country, no built-in battery
RRP: £12

The ABC Products USB Travel Adaptor is great for globetrotters, because it lets you charge two USB devices at once and also acts as an international travel adaptor for any other electrical items. Sliders push out pins that enable it to fit into pretty much any socket worldwide, but it won’t fit all European sockets, so check for compatibility before you buy. There’s no built-in battery either, so this is for mains-use only.

Poweradd Solar Charger

Poweradd Solar Charger

eBay loves: Good battery capacity and solar charging for emergencies
Watch out for: Don’t expect the sun to charge this battery quickly
RRP: £35

Free power is the best power and the Poweradd Solar Charger offers two ways to charge your phone. You can plug it into the mains to get to recharge the built-in battery, or leave it in the sun and let the solar panels do their stuff. In reality, solar charging on a small panel like this takes a very long time, but it’s a handy emergency solution if you’re stuck for other options. A great external battery with the bonus of solar top-ups in sunny countries.

PortaPow AA USB Rechargeable Battery

PortaPow AA USB Rechargeable Battery

eBay loves: Ideal for emergency use
Watch out for: You’ll need your own rechargeable batteries
RRP: £6.95

Put three high-capacity rechargeable batteries in the PortaPow AA USB Rechargeable Battery and you can top up any USB device when you’re on the move. Although it’s designed for use with rechargeable batteries (and will recharge them when plugged into the mains), it can also use standard lithium ones, making it a flexible option when you’re out and about. A built-in LED torch means there’s one less thing to carry, too, and the price is unbeatable — although batteries aren’t included.
