Tips on how to swap over your car key fob.

Swapping over your remote key fob to a new key fob is fairly straight forward and shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so to do. However, there are common mistakes that can be avoided. These tips are generic and not specific to any make or model.
First of all, make sure that you are ordering the correct key fob. Never buy a key fob where you cannot see the pictures clearly, and from lots of different angles and from the inside of the fob.
In possible, open up your existing key fob and check that the inside looks the same as the item you are intending to purchase. Even though the key may look the same on the outside, the inside can be totally different.
Once you receive your key, work on table top. It is easy to drop and lose some smaller screws in a carpet. Have both the new key fob and your existing key fob side by side and transfer the PCB, battery and most importantly, the immobilizer chip! The immobilizer chip is different for each manufacturer, but commonly is usually about 2cm tall and is either a cylinder or rectangular shape. The immobilizer chip usually lives in the rear part of the fob or if you key has a flip blade, it will be located in the flip key head. If you do not transfer over the immobilizer chip, your car will not start but the engine will turn over.
Another problem can be that the actual buttons on the PCB are worn down, they should stand approx 3mm above the actual switch, if they don't you may need to get a new switch soldered on to your PCB.
Also don't forget to make sure the battery is functioning correctly.
If your new key fob needs to have the key blade cut by a locksmith, shop around, not all locksmiths will cut keys that they haven't supplied. Independant locksmiths are normally more obliging.
Lastly if you do have any problems, go back to the company you purchased the key fob, any reputable company will sort out any issues you have.
So, it's a straight forward and good way to update the look and function of your car key fob, good luck.
