Charging Dock

Surprisingly, the Xbox One controllers are not rechargeable, instead requiring two AA batteries for power. This can be quite annoying when the batteries run down and you can’t find any new ones in the house! You can solve this problem with a charging dock, though. These gadgets generally consist of two rechargeable packs that clip into the battery compartment on your controllers, and a docking base that will automatically charge your controllers when you’re not using them. The docking base can plug into one of the USB ports on your Xbox One, so there’s no need for a separate power supply.

Steering Wheel

Two of the best driving games to ever hit a console live on the Xbox One in the shape of Forza Motorsport 5 and Forza Horizon 2, but to get the absolute best from these games you need the right tools for the job. The most important part of that equation is a great steering wheel controller, complete with force feedback. Force feedback simulates the natural pull and tug that you’d feel through the wheel on a real car, and it creates a truly immersive experience when driving on your Xbox. Once you've played Forza using a proper wheel and pedal set-up, you’ll never want to use the standard controller again!

Racing Cockpit

If you’ve splashed out on a steering wheel and pedal set you really need a proper racing cockpit to bolt them to. A good cockpit will consist of a seat that wouldn’t look out of place in a Porsche or Ferrari, along with a platform to bolt the wheel to and another for mounting the pedals. All parts should be adjustable to create the perfect fit for the driver, and once you've got it set-up right your Xbox really will become your very own racing car.

Gaming Headset

No matter what type of game you play, a high quality headset will make your experience that bit more immersive. And when it comes to multiplayer gaming, you’re going to need a headset to communicate with your team seamlessly while you play – there’s no way you’ll be embarking on a raid in Destiny without a headset! There are lots of options out there, but it’s worth paying a bit more for a fully wireless solution, negating the need for adapters and a tangle of cables in your lap.

Xbox Live Gold

While you can use your Xbox One without an Xbox Live Gold account, we wouldn't recommend it. Many of the best features that the console has to offer are dependent on Gold membership, including online multiplayer gaming. A Gold subscription also entitles you to Microsoft’s Games with Gold plan, which means you’ll get free games each month on your Xbox One and your old Xbox 360, if you have one. An Xbox Live Gold account isn't so much an accessory as a necessity if you want to get the best from your new console.
