WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN BUYING FROM A SELLER ON EBAY

eBay is a fantastic marketplace, but just like on a Market Stall there are the good guys and the dodgy geezers!  So how do you spot the dodgy ones and what should you look out for?  Here are some simple things to watch out for -

1/. Avoid sellers with Private Feedback - What are they trying to hide? A genuine seller should be proud to display their feedback.

2/. Be very wary of foreign sellers from Nigeria, China, Taiwan etc as the goods are likely to be fake or even non existant.

3/. Always ask yourself why is a listing so much cheaper than similar listings ......... normally because it is a fake, or not genuine - remember nothing is for free and things cost what they cost, so if you pay £100 for a "New" Dell Laptop don't expect it to have been made in the 21st Century (it may have been new in 1989 though!)

4/. Always try to pay via Paypal and avoid off eBay deals to give yourself the Buyer Protection eBay & Payal provide.

5/. Check the Sellers Feedback, a genuine seller will have a strong feedback rating over a decent period of time with over 99% Positive Ratings and a track record to depend on. Don't forget no one is perfect and you cannot please all the people all the time so there will be the odd negative, but you should always judge the Seller on overall performance.

6/. Always remember cheapest is not always best, a seller lists an item at a price they think is correct for the item, however some sellers will sell an item below cost and charge £5 or more p&p to reduce the eBay fees or sell a fake version of the item which seems a real bargain till you get the item, or you may never get to ever see the item so check their feedback!

(As an example I sell genuine top quality lingerie from America but there are some sellers out there listing poor quality immitiation items but using the same pictures to advertise the item, yet the item is listed way below cost and is, put simply, a cheap replica copy of the original, and inferiour rubbish - China and the surrounding countries exports more replicas than you would ever believe, I get 20 emails a day from those areas offering "Nike" & other brand name items cheap !!!!!)

7/. Check the delivery terms, a quality genuine seller will dispatch items as soon as posible, normally next day. Dodgy & suspect sellers will have disclaimers such as item will be sent within 3 to 10 days etc, why? - often because they do not have the item and only order it once you have bought the item. This is fine if you do not mind waiting 2 weeks for your item to arrive but most people would like the item yesterday, so always look for fast postage in sellers feedback.

8/. Check there are no hidden charges on a listing at the bottom such as compulsory Insurance at an extra £10 or similar.

9/. Always always always read the full item description completely a photo of a Rolex may be just, that so don't buy a photo of the watch for £500!!!!!!!!!

10/. Use your common sence, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, no one sells things for less than they cost so don't get swept away, use your head & if you find a seller you trust and are happy with add them to your favourite sellers list and use them again. Repeat customers are valued and you may even get a discount!

This guide is a generalization, but hopefully it may help you spot a few dodgy geezers and also help you spot a few top notch sellers too :)
