Your Guide to Replacing Philips Sonicare Brush Heads

The toothbrushes in the Philips Sonicare range offer a deep clean, removing plaque and debris from the teeth. These powerful electric toothbrushes have interchangeable heads that require changing regularly for optimal tooth cleaning performance. Knowing how to replace the brush heads on your Philips Sonicare toothbrush helps you to maximise the performance of your toothbrush.

Choosing the Correct Philips Sonicare Brush Head for Your Toothbrush

To choose the correct Philips Sonicare brush head, first find out which Sonicare brush model you have. If you still have your original packaging or user's manual, you can find your model name easily. If not, you may find the name of your model either printed on the handle or underneath the base of your charging unit. Using the wrong brush heads with your Sonicare can ruin its shaft, threads, and motor, so make sure you select the brush heads that are compatible with your toothbrush model.

Removing the Head on Your Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

You need to change the head on your Philips Sonicare toothbrush at least once every three months, as the bristles degrade with daily use, providing weaker cleaning action. Begin by removing the sonic toothbrush from the charging station. Hold the body of the toothbrush firmly in one hand, and with the other hand, get a tight grip on the head. Simply pull firmly to remove the old head.

Cleaning the Body of Your Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

Once you remove the old head, you need to thoroughly clean the body of your toothbrush, including the connection hole. While you should remove the head and clean both the head and the body daily, bacteria and debris still build up around the base of the head, so daily cleaning and an additional thorough cleaning when you change the toothbrush head ensures your toothbrush remains hygienically clean. Hold the body at a downward angle, with the base tilting upward to avoid water getting inside, and run the shaft under hot water. Take a soft microfibre cloth and wipe the entire body. Pay close attention to the area where the brush head connects, particularly the rubber seal. Allow it to air-dry thoroughly.

Placing a New Head on Your Philips Sonicare Toothbrush

Once you have removed the old head and given the brush a good clean, you need to connect the new head. Simply hold the base securely in one hand. Remove the new head from the packaging and align the bristles so they face the front of the handle. Then firmly press the head down onto the shaft until it clicks into place.
