WELCOME TO PART 2 OF MY GUIDE TO CLEANING AND REMOVING SAFETY STICKERS FROM ZIPPOS. (Please see Part 1 first)

THE ZIPPO HAS NOW BEEN GIVEN A COAT OF THE METAL POLISH WADDING, WHICH YOU SHOULD LEAVE ON THE ZIPPO FOR 30 SECONDS, OR LONGER DEPENDING ON HOW BAD THE SHADOW IS.

AFTER YOU HAVE LEFT THE POLISH ON TO WORK,THEN RUB IN AND YOU WILL FIND THE WADDING TURNING BLACK,ITS WORKING AND REMOVING THE SHADOW

THEN REMOVE ALL THE POLISH WITH A DRY CLEAN CLOTH (TOWELING IS GOOD)AND YOUR ZIPPO WILL LOOK AS GOOD AS THE DAY IT LEFT THE FACTORY. THE SHADOW SHOULD BE REMOVED!

THIS METAL POLISH WORKS GREAT ON BRUSHED CHROME, BLACK ICE FINISH,BRASS, AND HIGH POLISHED CHROME FINISHED ZIPPOS!   DO NOT USE ON RED,GREEN,BLUE,BLACK,WHITE, MATT ZIPPOS.

SO IF YOU WISH TO KEEP YOUR ZIPPO COLLECTION IN THE BEST CONDITION,DO REMOVE THOSE SAFETY SEALS.AS THE CHEMICALS IN THE GLUED STICKERS WILL DAMAGE YOUR ZIPPO'S YOU CAN STORE THEM IN THE ZIPPOS CASE,IF YOU WISH TO SELL ON THE ZIPPO AT ANY TIME. EVEN SOME OF THE NEWER PLASTIC SEALS CAN BE RE-STUCK/PLACED BACK ON THE ZIPPO.

YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE SHADOW/DAMAGE MADE FROM SOME OF THE PAPER SAFETY STICKERS ON THE OLDER WHITE,RED,BLUE GREEN,BLACK,YELLOW,BROWN MATT FINISH ZIPPOS DUE TO THEIR COATING ON THE FINISH.

WHY DO ZIPPO PUT THESE SAFETY SEALS/STICKERS ON THEIR U.S. IMPORTED ZIPPOS ?  WELL ITS A HEALTH AND SAFETY LAW IN THE U.S.   IM PLEASED ZIPPO CHANGED THE PAPER SEALS TO PLASTIC ONES AS THESE ARE MORE EASY TO REMOVE,BUT REMEMBER IF LEFT ON THEY CAN STILL DISCOLOUR THE FINISH ON YOUR ZIPPO COLLECTION.

UP-DATE; I ASKED ZIPPO ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THESE LABEL'S AND I GOT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION;

We have received your e-mail inquiry and wish to advise that,the warning label was first introduced February 1, 1993.  In August 2001 Zippo renamed the Child Warning labels as Warning labels,due to consumer confusion. In November 2005 we changed the warning label to which we use today. (plastic backed)

Federal Government regulations specify that the Warning Label be put directly on the product,regardless of the type of finish on the lighter,so that consumers will read it before attempting to use the lighter.

(with thanks to Anne and the Staff at Zippo's Consumer Relations Dept)
