A VERY QUICK GUIDE TO BUYING COINS ON EBAY.

1. IF A LISTING SAYS THE COIN IS SCARCE OR RARE IT PROBABLY WILL BE COMMON AND NUMEROUS.

2. DONT BELIEVE THE GRADES GIVEN TO COINS BY THEIR SELLERS ,THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO CAN GRADE COINS HONESTLY ARE OUTNUMBERED 10 TO 1 BY PEOPLE WHO OVERGRADE TO TRY AND INCREASE THEIR PROFIT. JUST JUDGE CONDITION YOURSELF BY THE PHOTOS.

3. THERE IS ARE  PEOPLE SELLING  UNC "LUSTROUS" COPPER COINS THAT ARE HIGHLY POLISHED WITH POOR PICTURES. IF THE COIN HAS WEAR IT CANT BE LUSTRED AS THE 1ST THING TO WEAR OFF A COIN IS THE LUSTRE.

4. BUY A GOOD COIN BOOK ie SPINKS. YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING TO PAY NO MORE THAN 50% OFF THE BOOK PRICE. IF THE COIN IS GRADED £20 IN VF YOU DONT WANT TO PAY ANY MORE THAN £10 INCL POSTAGE.

5. COMMON PENNIES,FARTHINGS, SHILLINGS ETC ARE BETTER OFF PICKED UP AT CAR BOOT SALES AND COLLECTORS FAIRS AS POSTAGE FEES NEGATE THE VALUE OF THE COINS. A 1900 - 1967 PENNY IN A VF GRADE ON EBAY =99P +POSTAGE , CAR BOOT SALE =10P.

 6. TRY NOT TO BUY HOLED OR BADLY WORN COINS UNLESS THE ARE HARDER TO GET EXAMPLES AND ALL YOU CAN AFFORD.

7.IF YOU THINK SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT ABOUT THE LISTING ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION ,IF THERE IS NO REPLY DONT BID.
