Regarding high postage charges, i have one simple rule, if you believe an item to be over priced regarding postage then ask the seller "WHY" if you believe the answer to be unreasonable then "do not bid", this rule has worked for me and tends to put the buyer in the driving seat. I always take items i'm selling to the post office for a weight/price before i list them on ebay, this ensures everything is honest and upfront, this may be awkward for some but there is sufficient time, by all means add a small fee for packaging but again be fair. I know in the past some sellers have ridiculas postage costs, obviously as a  back drop incase there item dosn't sell for what they expected. Another area i have experienced also is v.a.t, which in one case was added to the final cost inc postage, this i believe is wrong , vat should be added to the item price and then the postage added on later, after all why should anyone pay vat on the postage cost?.
