I have been the victim of the royal mail scam, i send my gear out by recorded delivery in order that the buyer has a high chance of receiving it. Recently i have experienced a item going missing which was sent by royal mail recorded delivery which never arrived. Well once a claim form was sent in by the buyer i received a letter from the roayl mail requesting that i provide proof of what i purchased the goods for. As i have inherited a mass collection of stamps in addition to my own and fathers collection i am not able to specify any independant value for the goods, i offer them on auction and what i sell is what i get which to me gives a reasonable value to the item. What rattles me is that the post office charge extra to ensure the item is delivered, paypal demands a tracking number and the post office only needs to deliver, obviously when the letter gets stolen the royal mail starts asking all the questions that you are running a business and that unless you can show how much you paid for the item minus a pecentage we wont pay you and all within 10 days, well it would help if their letter did not take 4 days to get here to start off with.
Anyway to put things into pespective, fight the royal mail, you pay for goods up to a value and it is that which you shoud get back from them, if they are providing a service and you are paying for it, then once they have custody, care or control of your goods it is down to them to compensate any loss not try and slide out the back door claiming you are running a business when all you are doing is selling your stamps. Hey ho maybe i should dig my granny up and ask her how much she brought the stamps for .
Remember royal mail is trying to get your money and not doing the service, we have had reports where recorded delivery labels have been ripped off and mail put in the letter box and also seen recorded delivery mail piut in our mail box unsigned. Heres the best one , recorded mail we send out which does not get collected or delivered gets sent back to the sender but we still have to sign for it. Maybe people should think twice about sending stuff by recorded when it still goes missing even if you pay for it to be tracked, its a joke the whole event, strange non of our mail comes backs despite having our name and address on the back.
