St. John’s College, Cambridge, is planning to throw the best party in the world to celebrate the college’s Quincentenary. The annual event has previously been ranked ‘7th best party in the world’ by Time Magazine but the historically unique occasion merits unrivalled luxury and splendour: no expense will be spared to keep the 2000 guests entertained till dawn. Tickets for this ‘once in a lifetime’ event do not go on sale, but instead are coveted amongst members of the elite college. Now, there is the opportunity for eight people to attend. In the spectacle of Cambridge’s May Week, since the first in 1888, St. John’s College Ball has stood out as the pinnacle of decadence. In 2011, however, the entertainment line-up will outshine previous stars Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris, Dizzie Rascal and the Scissor Sisters. Award-winning Pol Roger 2000 Vintage Champagne will flow while hog roasts and artisan foods will be in abandon throughout the college’s courts, built by Henry VII’s mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort early in the 16th century. To give a taster, just one surprise in an unimaginable evening will be a prize-draw for an all expenses paid trip to Paris at the 6am Survivor’s Photo. This auction is for one pair of tickets i.e. 2 people and includes an exclusive fast-track champagne reception at 20:00 - an hour before the Ball opens.
