This compact telephoto zoom lens, weights only 390g, is the successor model of EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. It works with EOS Digital SLR cameras* with EF-S lens mount and provides a focal length equivalent to 88-400mm in 135 format.

The 12 elements in 10 groups optical design includes an Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens that can reduce chromatic aberration and the 1.1-metre closest focus distance gives a 0.31x maximum magnification. Ghosting and flare are minimized by optimizing the lens coating, together with the circular aperture, high quality photos can be taken.

Up to 4-stop shake compensation is provided by the built-in Image Stabilizer which can distinguish between normal shooting and panning shots and automatically select the optimum shake compensation mode The lens adopts a high-speed CPU and an improved AF algorithm which offer quicker and more accurate focusing during shooting.
