One twelfth share in a 2007 MacGregor 26M motor-sailor yacht. Isla is moored on a pontoon in Cökertme on the northern coast of the Gulf of Gokova, about 30km east of Bodrum. The closest airport is Milas-Bodrum (approximately one hour away). She has access to excellent sailing waters and it is one day's sail away from the Greek Islands.
Isla comfortably sleeps 4 people and is well equipped with a galley, a sink with pressurised water, a single-burner spirit stove and storage with crockery, cuttlery and glassware, a dining-table for 4 flanked by two bench-seats, two double beds (one in the bow and one in the stern). She also has a heads compartment with a Jabsco sea-toilet. There is plentiful storage under the beds and seats.
The 50HP 4-stroke Mercury engine offers plenty of power and Isla will cruise all day at 6 knots with a maximum of about 12.5 knots.
She is well equipped with modern instrumentation, including depth sounder, wireless wind speed and direction indicator and a Raymarine autopilot, the latter making for relaxing passages as she steers herself.
Isla's genoa has roller reefing and the mainsail is slab-reefed with two reefing lines.
Isla, the engine and sails are in good condition and a yacht similarly equipped in the UK would cost in the region of £37,000.
As to ancillary equipment, there is a boom tent, a bimini to shade the cockpit, anchor with a 30-metre chain, twin 12V batteries, life-jackets, fenders and mooring lines. For when she is stored during the winter period, there is an aluminium road-trailer with winch.
The annual maintenance fee is £150 and covers insurance, antifouling, winter storage, berthing, engine service and launching and recovery. There can be no lower cost way of sailing the Aegean Sea in your own yacht. The sailing season is from May to October when the weather is progressively warmer and conducive to interesting sailing.
In the Gulfs of Gokova and Oranhye there are numerous restaurants where one can moor with a provision of electricity, water, showers for the price of an excellent meal. Otherwise, one can anchor in secluded bays or in small harbours for a modest fee. Captain Ibrahim's, the base mooring, is an excellent restaurant owned by a most engaging and helpful family who cook exquisite mezzes and meals and offer showers and free wi-fi.
The sharing arrangement is locally managed by an Englishman and his wife who live within a kilometre of Isla's mooring.
