Universe 5500 CB Radio Converted by myself about 15yrs ago to have 12 bands of 40 5kc spaced channels using a special Eprom board I made plus some other mods I did. Edit: I've just remembered I also programmed a 1MHz split frequency facility into the Eprom for this transceiver using the display dimmer switch to turn it on or off. I wired the Rx (Green l.e.d) to show when the split is on. Operation is as follows.. If you are above 27Mhz the split will move the Tx frequency down by 1Mhz.. If you are below 27MHz the split will move Tx up by 1MHz. I cannot recall the highest frequency available but the lowest showing now on the counter is 25.655MHz. Working from 12 bands of 40 5kc channels would add about 2.64MHz to that figure. So when you have adjusted the vco properly the highest frequency would be around 28.295MHz. I think I made Band 13 a group of calling & popular ssb channels AM / USB / LSB Modes In working order but may require a service as it's not been used for a long time (Photo shows me keying the mic. Tx light is on and signal/power meter shows this) A nice looking radio in good condition for its age. I've taken good care of it in the 20 odd years I've owned it. I can't remember how many channels it has now but it has a lot!.. I noticed the vco is not locking at the top end so will need some adjustment to pull all the channels back in. I also notice the signal meter bulb is out so it needs another. I don't have the time to put a new bulb in and retune the vco. They are both 5 minute jobs for those who know how. The display on the left is the band number. I used a BCD channel switch as a band switch so it will show higher numbers but there is either 12 or 13 active bands.. (memory fails me now!) Comes with Universe microphone & power lead I always make witnessed videos of my items working when sold as working so there will be no returns. The radio is working but no further warranty is implied. It transmits & receives but as with all 30yr old radios would benefit from a service I will be sorry to see this go as it's been in my possession for a long long time but I need to downsize Will be well packed & sent by recorded delivery I can email a schematic for the transceiver to the auction winner. If required - ask me I will be listing a Superstar 2000 and a few other ssb cb's in the near future together with some PMR transceivers & other gear so keep checking back UK only thanks Please see my other items |
