This book by Andrew Morton really is an eye-opener about how Edward VIII, latterly the Duke of Windsor, had such close ties to Nazi Germany. After his abdication in 1936, the former king still insisted on being bowed and scraped to by everyone and even toured Germany. Hitler would have had a perfect candidate in a puppet king if the Nazis had invaded England. Edward comes across as a selfish, vain and ultimately treacherous younger brother who caused a lot of trouble with George VI, a brother who never intended to be king. Mrs Simpson did the UK a huge favour in marrying Edward and going into exile. An excellent book and I would recommend it highly.
