1800's MAPPIN BROS Candlestick FIGURAL Sheffield England GOATS Crystals Shabby

~DESCRIPTION~

This is a wonderful antique figural candlestick by Mappin Brothers of Sheffield, England, circa 1865-1890, depicting two goats circling a tall grapevine.

Base metal is likely iron or white metal and it originally had a gold gilt finish. I purchased it here in a barn in NC and the finish was completely worn. I decided to redo it by painting it with lifelike colors and then gilding it instead of just spray painting it with gold. It turned out very nice and it gave it a wonderful shabby cottage look.

When I purchased it, these large handcut crystals were in the box with the candlestick so I have just hung them from the grape vine branches.

Product Details:

Materials: Metal.

Measurements: Measuring approx. 9 1/2" tall by 8" wide.

Age: Mid to late 1800's.

Condition: Has been refinished and has a place where I believe the tip has broken off one of the leaf like protrusions on base. Hard to notice due to the finish.

Hallmarks: marked with a square mark: MAP (over)PIN. Also has another word I cannot make out. Also numbered B 2860.

Really a wonderful antique candlestick.

Most of my pictures are taken with a magnifying lens giving me clear, close up photos. This tends to also magnify minor flaws on item which many times cannot be seen on actual item. Also, please check measurements given in listing as photos may make items look larger than they actually are.
