GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION

This sale is for a large size quality FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION entitled “The History of Myddle,” by Richard Gough, edited with an Introduction and Notes by David Hey, with endpaper maps and 10 full-page COLOUR toned illustrations by Tim Stephens.

It was published by The Folio Society, of London, and is the 1983 FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION, the first in this illustrated form and with maps.

Myddle is north of Shrewsbury, near Wem (between Market Drayton and Oswestry) and south of Cheshire and Flintshire.

An early 18th century record of anecdotes about each of the families in the parish of Myddle.  Richard Gough wrote “The History of Myddle” around the year 1700.  It was published in 1834 but was largely unknown until it was republished by Penguin in 1981.  Richard Gough has now been hailed as one of England’s first social historians.

The contents include:

·        Introduction

·        Note on the Text

·        Antiquityes and Memoyres of the Parish of Myddle

·        Observations Concerning the Seates in Myddle and the Familyes to Which They Belong

·        Certaine Cases and Controversies Which Have Happended Betweene This Parish and Other Parishes

·        Notes

The illustrations are:

·      Myddle Church

·      Platt Bridge Toll House

·      Balderton Hall

·      The Tower

·      Stanwardine Hall

·      Battlefield Church

·      Myddle Castle

·      The Hollins Farm

·      Platt Bridge House

·      Myddle Church Yard

The book measures 10 inches x 6 inches and has 313 pages + illustrations.

The book is in very good clean and neat condition save some grubby marks/fading to the spine.  The binding is very good with no loose or missing pages.  There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book.  There is no slipcase.

A wonderful illustrated quality FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION.
