Road Racing Bike
Sun Snipe Worksop 5 speed bike, frame number K1843
Centre bottom bracket top top of the seat tube = 54cm
Top tube Centre to centre = 57cm
From what I can find out Raleigh absorbed Sun and moved production to the Carlton plant in Worksop in the early 1960s. Seems the K prefix frame number would date a Carlton frame to 62/63 which ties in.
The frame has the distinctive wrap over rear seat stay joins , which were used by the Worksop factory along side production of Carlton bikes.
Believe this frame is made from Tru-Well , which was a Carlton tubing product ,which was fazed out by Raleigh at the end of the 1970s.
The bottom bracket is in place, but will need servicing.
There is a braze on for a single cable guide on the bottom bracket , and a hole for an oil point , it seems to have lost it's brass nipple
Braze on for top tube cable, pump pegs, and one braze on for a Cyclo shifter. There is a braze on on the drive side chain stay
Electric blue colour (what is left of the paint) , with a seat tube decal which talks of The Tour of Britain , Tour of Mexico , World professional pursuit championship , and the Berlin Warsaw Prague tour of six nations.
If it goes for the Buy it now price I will include a replacement set of decals for a Sun Snipe Prestige.
I bought it to restore but in measuring it against my other bikes have realised it's too big for me.
Could you tell me if you have removed the bottom bracket recently?
A: Hi, I didn't take it right out but both cups turn easily in the threads. I can remove it if required. Cheers
