Selling my 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe. This car is a full on Resto Mod. It has an SRIII tube frame chassis and uses all modern Corvette running gear. Most of which is new. It has been built right hand drive for British roads, but would work equally well in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan etc. I have spent 7 years collecting parts and building this car. At the time of listing, it has less than 300 miles on it, and has only just been through MOT and UK registration. Sale only due to pending emmigration. Just my luck! Check out the link to a photo album and full spec sheet below. Potential buyers are welcome to view the car in West Somerset. Having spoken to a few knowledgeable people here in the UK about the state of the UK classic car market, and the understanding of the value of high end modified US collectibles, I realise that most people do not get the overall concept of a 'Resto Mod'. To reproduce the chassis and drive train in this country would probably cost upwards of £45,000. On top of that you would need either a restored, or to go through the restorarion process on a basically decent 1960's Corvette. Probably £25,000 to find a restorable car, much more if you use a restored one and sold off the underpinnings etc. I built this car for myself with the long term intention of keeping it here and enjoying it on British roads. But things change and I now find myself needing to move on. Because I built the car right hand drive, it makes sense to sell it here before I go. So I have decided to substantially drop the asking price. I am willing to discuss this with a serious prospective buyer, and welcome interested parties to contact me. The little opportunity I have had so far to drive it indicates that it works together as a package brilliantly. I have owned both 60,s and 70's unmodified Corvettes in the past, and this car has an overall superior ride and feel to the handling than the standard equiped cars. The engine and transmission are brand new, so it is too soon to experiment with performance levels, but initial feel is that 400 horsepower in a light weight car is more than enough. The LS2 motor and TKO500 transmission are of all aluminium construction, so the weight of the overall car should be much lower than a standard 64. Plus, most of that weight saving came at the front, so a better ballance to the weight distribution is a bonus. The overdrive transmission means super low rpm levels at cruising speeds should give an excellent return on fuel economy, whilst still having an agressive enough first gear for a lightning take off when desired. The suspension and brakes are all components from later model Corvettes, and given the level of technical superiority GM lavished on the recent Corvette generations, this should speak for itself. The interior was lined with Dynamat sound deadener. This is a foil over bitumen product used extensively in the US in hot rods and car builds in general. Particularly where a high performance sound system is used. I opted not to install a sound system in this car, prefering the more hard core sports car approach. My own past experience with my hot rods is that I never turn them on anyway. The car has a heater and defrost system from Vintage Air. They also make A/C units, but I chose to stick with the basic unit. It could be upgraded as all the components to run off of this engine are easily available. The leather seats are Alfa Romeo and super comfortable. I have plenty of spare leather for future repairs or interior changes. Car 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe.
