GORGEOUS HONEYBURST QUILT TOP RED SPECIAL! RARE!
1984 Guild Brian May HONEY SUNBURST Quilted Top Red Special - BHM235
Rarest of the rare colors & 2 piece quilt tops ever made by GUILD of Rhode Island back during the very 1st official production run of a supposed 300 back in the 1984/1985 season of the BRIAN MAY
I've never seen a higher production number, personally... and I've owned and seen probably most, if not all of them, at some point in time.
This guitar is ALL ORIGINAL except for the knobs. And no, I do not have them.
I may have an extra set of knobs that I'd have to list at a later point in time in a separate auction.. but they wouldn't be off this guitar, just original to this model.
This guitar is perfectly set up for it's kahler (well taken care of). NICE action, plays like an absolute dream and of course, thanks to the DiMarzio Brian May pickups, sounds amazing! I get most of the QUEEN album "The Works" and "One Vision" sound out of this guitar PERFECTLY through my setup.
This is one of the jewels of my collection EVER and I'm very sad to see it go.
The whole time it will be made available I will be looking for any excuse I can to not sell her, but duty calls. At this moment in time the need outweighs the greed and hopefully she will go to the right buyer! Maybe they will be you.
Although the trend is for all the tribute bands nowadays to get the 2nd try at the Guild signatures I believe these guitars to be the better of the 2 trys in it's own right. Cosmetically you do want the 2nd run for looks but for downright grit and play-ability I believe the 1st runs are the only way to go.
But that's just my personal opinion.
Please feel free to ask any and all questions before the end of the auction and best of luck to all of you.. even though "There Can Be Only One".
In the coming weeks/months I will be listing numerous Guild Red Specials autographed by Brian May mainly from Oct 2002 when I had the opportunity to work with him and Roger for their 2002 Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony and concert in Los Angeles. Also an early Gin Blossoms owned Tom Petty 12 string used on most of their biggest hits all documented... and an 85 Guild RS once owned by Steve Stevens of Billy Idol and used on Steve's solo album "Atomic Playboy" SIGNED by Brian May also in October 2002. Thanks for keeping an eye out and good luck if you're going to try for any of these guitars.
