Welcome to the auction of my Saab 900i

I bought it in June this year as a potential option for my ever-continuing Saab project which started 2 years ago with a purchase of my first pre-GM 900 and so far has seen me through 2 x Convertibles, 2 x 900i and a 900 Turbo (I still own a couple, so I guess you could call me enthusiastic). The things that made this car appealing to me were its bodywork, the fact that it's a Saloon / Coupe (whichever appeals to you more), and the red / burgundy interior. I have never owned a 900 with this body shape before - all my other ones were hatches. I have also never seen one with this interior colour - very 1980s. So I bought it. Since then I've had some significant life changes, whereby our family is expecting a new arrival. My Saab project has also taken a slightly different path than originally thought so I am not expecting to use this car anymore.

The odometer on the photo is showing 170,357 which is just about run-in for a pre-GM 900. I do take it round the block once a week to keep the battery alive and the car moving so the mileage will change slightly. The car was MOT'd in May 2013 with no advisories as far as I can remember (at the moment I can't find the MOT summary as I am desperately trying to re-decorate before the baby arrives and the house is a complete mess, but I will look it up). It's also taxed until June 2014. Since the MOT I have done around 300-400 miles in it and it works perfectly fine both on a motorway and in town.

The bodywork is surprisingly good for a 25 year old car. Despite the fact that it had 6 owners, the last one had it for 13 years and clearly didn't let it rust out in the street (I've seen a lot of these now and I know where the usual rust-prone areas are). I haven't had it on a ramp but from what I can see there is no rust on the wheel arches or inside them. The driver's door is not in such a great condition at the bottom (see the photo), but nowhere near as bad as many around. The passenger door is much better. You can see a little area that is affected and will clearly need to be addressed before it spreads, but again, having seen a lot of these - it's in a fairly good condition. The rest of the bodywork is fine from what I can see.

The interior is not mint and at least one of the owners was a smoker (most probably the last one). As you can see, the driver's seat has two worn out areas. The cloth on the other seats is fine but faded in the sun. Somebody tried replacing the head-lining (a permanent issue on these) but did not do a great job and it is beginning to sag again. The sunroof lining looks original (and also sagging). The actual sunroof is a manual one and opens / closes fine.

Electric windows and mirrors work fine. Rear windows open and close as intended. Not sure who and when broke the retracting antenna and then replaced it with a bog-standard one, but it works. The radio (if not original) is definitely from the 80's. It did work, but did not turn on the last time I took the car out - I think it's probably the fuse, but haven't checked it. It may have died, which wouldn't surprise me considering it is so old that you need to load the tapes in lengthways! All the heating works fine.

The engine starts first time, is idling fine and runs perfectly well (are these the most solid engines ever built by a car manufacturer? I think so). Gearbox is fine - doesn't slip out of gears.

Having owned a few of these now - I don't think it will need a huge amount of work. I even have a full set of leather seats that I can sell to you if you want to replace the current ones, but we can discuss this separately if interested.

I hope it finds a new good home - you don't see many of these around now. I have the V5 and will try to find the MOT summary. The car didn't have any other paperwork when I bought it. Collection only. You can drive the car away as it's Taxed and MOT'ed. Cash on collection. Please have some consideration for other users and only bid if you can buy it - it is very frustrating when people mess you around.
