The Saab brand has always appealed to buyers looking for something a little different to the mainstream and the 9-3 is a prime example. It's less obvious than a BMW for instance and has an air of understated style about its looks while still retaining a premium reputation. The 9-3 150 is a great place for the driver to be offering a heady mix of power and road handling.

Saab likes to make associations with its aviation heritage and the dash layout of the 9-3 certainly has a hint of aircraft cockpit about it. It's enveloping, with lots of gadgets and important-looking switches, a no-nonsense layout for the controls and the clearest instruments you re likely to find. It has extremely comfortable and supportive half leather seats that hug you in all the right places, a sound driving position with a wide range of adjustment. In the front, there's good headroom and adequate legroom. There s decent space in the back, too. This estates boot is large offering a massive amount of luggage space and has 60/40 split of the rear seats for even more practicality

This one is fitted with the awesome 150bhp diesel engine that whisks this car to a top speed of 125mph yet manages to return an average of 47mpg. Saab has always been known to make bomb proof engines and this one is no exception - it uses well proven technology. It is extremely quiet on a cruise (in fact the car as a whole does a fantastic job of shutting out unwanted noise from the outside) and offers a whole load of torque giving you that Friday feeling when the black stuff gets twisty.

The dash is well laid out and visibility is good. A usefully sized boot and versatility makes this car a classy lifestyle accessory. The ride is excellent, smooth over every surface. The handling is good on the motorway and excellent on the back roads. It's safe and competent with the added benefit of firm suspension which brings added composure at speed.

The 9-3 gained a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating and was one of the first cars to do so. The body structure is tough and all models come with driver, passenger and side airbags, ABS and EBD, strong deadlocks, unique-fit stereo and an advanced alarm/immobiliser.

 

This Saab benefits from long life servicing meaning it only needs to see the inside of a dealership every 15-20,000 miles. This one has a Full Service History with stamps in the book and service print out. It s been serviced at: 11, 18546, 37003, 54817, 72254, 90946, 108868, and the last one was done at 135419 miles. The service light is now showing on the dash.

 

The all important Cam Belt was changed at: 102197 miles.

 

On the test drive this car was an absolute dream to drive. The engine is responsive in every gear and very eager to pull, when the turbo kicks in the acceleration is stunning. The gear change is positive with a nice and light clutch. The steering is perfect with no signs of wobble or drift. All in all a stunning example.
