20th Century Original French Oil on Canvas Signed Painting by Famous Artist Roger De La Corbiere titled "The Coast Of Brittany"

This incredibly atmospheric painting is a fine example of Roger De La Corbiere's work, who was highly esteemed for his coastal paintings.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Henry Roger Mascarel de la Corbiere was born in Vouneuil-sur-Vienne, France, on July 22, 1893, and died in Paris at the age of 81 on September 3, 1974. On August 2, 1922 he married Martha Germaine Page (1891-1975) in Paris. Corbiere was Influenced by Paul Signac (1863-1935), who helped him to start his painting career in La Rochelle. He was a friend of Maurice Denis (1870-1943) and of other “Sacred Art” painters in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Jean Souverbie (1891-1981) was also in the group of artists as well as Lucie Tullat. Roger was best known for his paintings of coastal scenes with emphasis on the sea and the effects of light reflections. In France, he exhibited at the Galerie Katia Granoff and at the Gallery Hautecoeur in Paris.  In 1926, Roger de La Corbiere began exhibiting at the Society of Independent Artists.  In 1932 he became a member and exhibitor at the National Society of Fine Arts, and in 1956 at the Society of French Artists. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Independants, Salon d’Automne and National Exhibition of Fine Arts. Several his paintings were acquired by the French State in 1925 and are included in the collections of the families of the Maharaja of Kaarpoutala, Comte de Tocqueville, Professor Marion, Andrei Gromyko and the USSR Embassy. In the USA Roger de la Corbiere was represented by Arnot Gallery in New York, where his paintings remain on exhibition.

It has been set in a french provincial, white wash frame with a light brown hessian mount, setting off the painting perfectly.

The painting and frame are in pristine condition, and ready to be hung.
