The Gold on base is a special foil evaporated with 24 ct gold. These leaves are not as damageable as pure natural gold and therefore easier to handle - ideal for beginners. The gold layer is much thinner compared to grinded gold leaves.

The Modern Art of Manufacturing Gold Leaf

The manufacture of Gold Leaf

1.Gold Leaf is manufactured from an alloy of gold, silver and copper. At the

start of the manufacturing processthe metals are melted at 1250C, cast into

 a bar and rolled out into a thin ribbon.

2.In the first beating process, called the 'shodder', the ready

laminated ribbon is cut into squares measuring 40x40mm, these are

interleaved and beaten out to 160x160mm with hammers.

3. In the second beating process the 'mould', the finished

beaten shodder gold is again cut into squares

, interleaved and subsequently beaten out to

the thickness of 0.000125mm.

4.The finished gold leaf is removed from the mould by hand,

checked carefully for possible flaws, cut

into standard square or rectangle and inserted

into paper booklets.
