A very sharp, reliable pattern that has been designed to be used in conjunction with the ever-popular chod rig. The Choddy B is in a barbless format and can also be used with many different pop-up presentations due to the out-turned eye. Hook holds are always firm due to the slightly beaked point and carp find them very difficult to eject.
The Hinged Stiff Rig, as used by top anglers such as Adam Penning, Terry Hearn and Nigel Sharp, is ideally suited to be used with the Choddy pattern. Its out-turned eye ensures that the gape is left wide, enabling secure hook holds.
It can also be used for standard stiff presentations, either in conjunction with the Bristlefilament or IQ Fluorocarbon.
Use trial and error to find out your most effective stiff rigs because they can be deadly in the correct situation.
Kurv Shank
Carp find this pattern very tricky to eject due to its curved shank, which drives into their bottom lip. It always flips when sucked in and there is no need to add any shrink tubing due to its in-turned eye.
It can be used with a variety of presentations such as the blowback, KD rig and many more. The point is very sharp and it is reliable and strong. A firm favourite among some of the best carp anglers in the country.
This hook pattern is also a fantastic addition to the Mutli Rig. Rather than using a Choddy Hook, you can incorporate a Kurv Shank. Due to the way that the rig is designed the Kurv will sit like a claw and whichever way the carp sucks in the hook bait, the point will be facing down ready to grab the bottom lip. Kurv Shank B
The Kurv Shank B is based on the same principles as the Kurv but in a barbless version for waters that ban barbed. Again, it’s very sharp and reliable giving you access to a variety of different presentations. It features an in-turned eye, eradicating the need for shrink tubing.
The Kurv Shank B’s are unbelievably versatile and can be used with an array of rigs including the blowback, KD or standard bottom bait. If your water bans barbed hooks, this is the pattern for you!
Longshank X
The Hybrid Longshank X is designed for ultra riggy fish on pressured waters. The long straight point will catch hold in the mouth faster than any other hook. The 20-degree in-turned eye helps it to flip over in the carp’s mouth and catch hold. The hook is strong for its weight and will suit almost all carping situations. It suits open water situations where sharpness is paramount and where the angler requires a certain finesse in his presentation
Mixa (B)
The first dedicated floater fishing hook. These have been specifically designed to hook even the shyest feeding carp on the surface. With a short shank, wide gape, beaked offset point, they truly are made for the job. The final most noticeable point about these hooks, are their sharpness; hypodermic and piercing is the best possible explanation I can give. So much so that the guys at Korda have been using them for all manner of carp fishing situations. Korda’s Ali Hamidi commented; “They have been initially designed for surface fishing, but great hook patterns like this, considering their sharpness and characteristics lend themselves to lots of fishing scenarios. They’ve been catching specimen Chub, Barbel and obviously loads of carp during testing”. The Mixa hook is available in barbed and barbless versions, in size 6, 8, 10 & 12.
Wide Gape
The Hybrid, Wide Gape hook is based on the classic Maruta Kinryu spade end pattern – a popular shape in hook. The point is very slightly in-turned so it catches hold quickly creating solid hook holds every single time. This, coupled with ultra sharpness, forms a formidable hook pattern.
The eye is in-turned 15-degrees to flip the hook over quickly and with the addition of shrink tubing makes it even more effective. This is a modern day classic without doubt.
To show how trusted it is by big-carp anglers you'll have noticed that it has accounted for the biggest carp in the country, namely Two Tone, landed by the one and only Darrell Peck. He absolutely swears by this pattern and will use it for a number of presentations, whether that's boilie or particle fishing.
Wide Gape B
The Hybrid Wide Gape B is the same pattern as the wide gape but slightly heavier in the gauge to make the hook hold more secure. There is no barb to impede penetration so the thicker wire helps to keep the hook in.
We have only made the in-turned point pattern barbless because in-turned points stay in better once they are in because the hook has to turn out the same way it went in which is difficult. A great hook on waters that ban barbed.
Wide Gape X
The Wide Gape X is basically a beefed-up version of the popular Wide Gape design, purposely designed to use when targeting carp in snaggy waters or those ultra-demanding European waters.
The hook comprises all the same features as the Wide Gape but comes complete with a thicker gauge and a reinforced hook point. You can concoct many rigs with the Wide Gape and with the addition of some shrink tubing, it can create an aggressive presentation that carp find very hard to deal with.
To develop a simple blowback rig, place the relevant sized Rig Ring onto the hook's shank, Danny Fairbrass style. You can also create a very effective anti-eject rig by sliding some Silicone Tubing onto the shank. This will trap the hair in place. Take a look at Rigz to learn how to do this
