DP4 Bushes are made of high quality low-carbon steel backing with a sintered porous bronze internal layer And this inner layer has a coating compound of PTFE on its Surface and intergrated into the inner layer. The Color Of its Inner Layer Is Red.

2x DP4 performance bushes.

These DP4 bushes will last considerably longer than a standard DU bush.

DP4 offers improved wear and friction performance along with good chemical resistance compared to DU.

You can tell the bushes apart by the internal coating on the bush. The DU bushes have a black or greyish coating and the longer lasting DP4 bushes have a red coating.

If you look at the last two bushes in the picture, the lining has worn away and you can see the bronze backing material, if you can see this material on your bushes then it's time to change them, this wear is what causes the play in shock bushes.

Understanding bushes

Below you can see a photo of different kinds of outer eyelet bushes with varied amounts of wear.

On the left you have outer stainless steel through axle bushes, if you look closely you will see that when these wear a ridge is left in the centre of the bush, if you can feel this wear or sometimes just see it and there is movement in the shock when the inner eyelet bush is new, then you should replace the outer bush.

On the right of the picture you can see some aluminium top hat outer eyelet bushes, as you can make out from the picture, one of the upper longer aluminium bushes is badly worn and also deformed, this has been run with a worn inner bush for far too long and the shock mounting bolt has snapped, the same rule as above applies here, if the inner bush is new and doesn't have any damage from installation, it's time to change the outer bushes.

Best case scenario you will need to replace the inner and outer bushes, worst case scenario you will snap the bolt and damage the frame or shock and may end up injured.

Making sure that you inner eyelet bushes are in good condition means you will very rarely have to change the more expensive outer ones, all it takes is a little bit of knowledge about what's going on to avoid this and hopefully you have that now.
