This no reserve auction is for two versions of the 1954 movie soundtrack of Herman Wouk's THE CAINE MUTINY. The first edition of 1954 is a legend among LP collectors. The story is, the studio pulled the album before release (so there never was a general release of the soundtrack at that time), and only a few copies escaped being scrapped. Well here it is! One RCA Victor LP, LOC 1013. The tracks are:
The Bright Young Men
I Can't Believe That You're in Love with Me
The Junkyard Navy
Heavy Weather Ahead
The Court Martial (the full soundtrack of the film sequence)
The LP itself is near mint, perhaps played 1-2 times at most, with evidence of a single hairline scratch on the "A" side and minor spindle marks. It has a brilliant glossy sheen and the labels on both sides look great. The dust jacket is unlabeled and probably a replacement.
The album cover is in very good condition, but does show some wear. Both the top and bottom spines have some tears from the dust jacket over the year. The graphics on the cover are bright . The backside provides detail to the various tracks on the LP. It shows some wear around the edges from storage over the years.
As a bonus, we also have the limited edition 1970 pressing of the CAINE MUTINY soundtrack. That year 1,000 copies of the soundtrack were made and distributed to collectors. The 1970 album is printed in black and white and is prominently marked PRIVATE PRESSING 1000 COPIES-NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE. This could be used as a listening copy while the 1954 LP could simply be put on display.
