This is a 1991 range Rover V8 3.9 EFI (the one that Clarkson thought he had in Bolivia!)
I've had this Rangie for two years and in that time it's travelled the length of England and Wales and never given me any problems. It has always started first time, it's comfortable, doesn't leak and has never let me down on motorways or knee deep in muddy fields and saw me through the last icy winter with no problems starting. It's been used weekly and I love it. But I have a wedding to pay for and can't justify running two cars, so sadly it has to go!
It has had the prop shaft replaced at the start of the year when that started banging and the engine is starting to sound a little rough on dual carriageways above 50.
Bad Points
This is a workhorse Range Rover. Don't expect heated leather seats, limited edition trim or fancy sat nav. Do expect it to smell of dog, and the laquer is peeling in places.
Air Conditioning was disconnected before I bought it - see No.1
Electric mirrors, interior lights and other fancy gadgets don't work - see No.1
A fixing screw is missing on the tailgate lock, but the lock works fine and still closes/locks so I never bothered to fix it. (10p for a new one?)
Centre console has had a fair bit of cosmetic damage due to a Lab x Ridgeback bouncing around for the last year. All the switches etc still work, but they could do with being slotted onto a sheet of ply or a new console if you feel like it
Could do with a new water level sensor and temp sensor, but the engine works fine and it's more an annoyance than anything else.
Good points
Rear tailgate is in fantastic condition. Solid in the corners, the odd rust spot on the surface, but amazing condition for the age of the vehicle.
All electric windows and the sunroof work fine
Minimal sagging on the roof lining. It has come away from the sunroof slide, but I always keep that tucked back and the sunroof doesn't leak.
Custom front bumper - excellent clearance and entry angle at the front - very solid if you wanted to add a winch.
K&N filter
Plenty of paperwork including V5 and all the original owners manual/service record
Odd Points
The driver door was replaced at some point in it's history and has two buttons for the central locking. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. If you open from the passenger door then the central locking is fine.
MOT till 25th July 2011. The advisory from last year was for some leaky exhaust. The manifolds have already been done (paperwork can be seen) and so might need a downpipe or centre section tidy up, and slight seepage from the front steering dampner. Considering it's age and daily use this is in excellent condition.
It's taxed till the end of June, It's ready to drive away.
