World War II (1939-1945)
Extremely rare - complete WWII Handley Page Halifax bomber control column. I bought this as a trade some time ago but the third party now wants something else, so it has to go.
I have been collecting for a long time and this is the only one I have ever seen.
It is in good mechanical condition - the aileron sprocket at the base turns with the control wheel. It appears to have originated from a scrapped Halifax - there is no evidence of crash damage.
There are a lot of part numbers all over the grip and column including a Handley Page inspectors stamp 'HP96'.
This item is original and untampered. It does show its age - the paint finish is scuffed in many places and there is some light surface corrosion on some of the steel fittings. The handwheel grip covering has split in several places and there is some corrosion in the exposed areas. This is localised and is not uncommon in magnesium alloy type grips. I have not treated this but it could easily be done. Most of the control wheel is in very sound condition however.
I can meet the buyer anywhere in London if it helps. I will need immediate payment however as the cash is needed for something else.
