The built in "Confirm" chip tells your camera that the lens is in manual mode, allowing the "in-focus" lights to operate correctly in the viewfinder. You need to set the aperture by hand however you can set your camera to Aperture Priority (Av) mode to use the camera's automatic exposure facility. The chip allows all metering modes supported by your camera.
This is a new version of such adapter which enables ALL M42x1 screw lenses to be used on Canon EOS film/digital SLR cameras. It is achieved with the Push Ring. Most other M42 to EOS adapters on Ebay DO NOT have such Push Ring. Without such Push Ring, nearly more than half of M42 screw lenses can not be used on Canon EOS film/digital cameras. They only work with lenses which have a Manual/Auto swich. So make sure that the adapter you are going to buy will work on your Canon camera with all types of M42 lenses.
BE CAREFUL: I bought a M42 lens from Ebay. It comes with an adaptor. The stop down pin On the back of the lens is bent/damaged. This also means that seller's Canon EOS camera is damaged too. The reason for this is because the bad design and improper use of other adapters that in turn will damage both camera and lens. This Bronze adapter is much batter in quality and duration than other similar ones with Aluminum construction, silver or anodized black! With this adapter, you have the choice of using whole High quality but inexpensive M42 lenses range such as Carl Zeiss, Sigma, Pentacon, Pentax, Yachica, Vivitar, Maranz, Zenit, Chinon, Prinzflex, Sirius, Hanimex etc. M42 lenses and macro accessories on Canon EOS cameras such as 35mm film camera or DSLRs(300D, 350D, 1D, 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D etc). NOTE: Some full frame DSLRs may not suitable with this adapter as the mirror will touch it, so make sure before buying. In most cases your adapter will be delivered the same day as the payment cleared in a High Standard DOUBLE packing mailing bag.
If the adapter is out of working order due to manufactory's fault within three months after purchasing, a brand new replacement will be sent to you after receiving the faulty one. Who else on Ebay provides this great service?! My feedback will explain this to you. It can focus to INFINITY with a STOP SCREW/PIN (See picture). You can use only in manual mode and in Av mode with metering. I see some mounting instructions on Ebay which in my opinion will damage your camera. Not every seller is an expert. I have used many different M42 lenses from different brands. So a proper instruction is crucial in using an adapter. You also get a guidance of how to use this adapter with a M42 lens on you Canon EOS camera. This guidance is based on my personal experience of using it on my Canon camera.
