LIMIT 9 CARAT SOLID GOLD FULL HUNTER POCKET WATCH
The Limit brand was established in 1912. The very first watches were constructed in Switzerland. At that time the UK headquarters were based in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
In 1963 following a very successful 50 years trading Time Products (UK) Ltd purchased the Limit brand. The operation remained in Oldham for a further 39 years.
Today Limit is based in the Time Products (UK) Ltd volume division headquarters in Leicester
This was amongst the very first of these watches to be produced here in the UK although the movement was made in Switzerland and put in a Dennison watch case.
The case has only one tiny ding on the outer front cover. The rear outer cover has the letters “H M” engraved on it. The case itself was made by the “Dennison Watch Case Co.”. The front inner leaf has the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office with the date stamp “n” dating it 1912. There is also stamped “9.375” for 9 Carat gold together with the makers mark “A.L.D”. The case serial number is 45183 which is stamped on all opening leafs and the case rim to.
The dial is all but perfect except for the tiniest chip right on the outer rim at the 9 O’clock position. The hands are the original black spade ends with the sub seconds at the 6 O’ Clock position.
The movement is 15 jewels and has been regularly serviced. It runs smoothly as do most Swiss made movements. It has the Limit makers stamp on it together with the 15 jewel stamp. It is stem wound and set with the stem at 90 degrees from the 12’ O’ Clock.
The watch measures 50mm in diameter and is 12mm thick. Overall this is a superb looking specimen of Swiss precision and would make a lovely addition to any collection. For a watch that is coming up for its centenary it is amazing. I will start the bidding at what I believe to be the scrap value of the gold itself
