This is for a classic 1959 James Commodore 250cc 2 stroke motorbike. This will be a vary brave restoration should someone want to take it on. I had planned on making a classic scrambler out of it. I bought this blind with only the one photo to go on. I was told the engine turned over.
The good points,
The alloy engine case is very nice and there are no cracked fins. The fuel tank looks OK. The Amal carb may well be savable. The gauges in the headlight look quite nice. The gearbox seems OK. The James badges on the fuel tank are OK. The steering turns. The front mudguard should be OK.  The center stand works well. And it has a nice reg number if you can get it back from the DVLA.
It did have a tax with it. This has faded where it was written on but is correct one for this bike. I would recommend slight touch up to the hand writing on it and then taking it to a local DVLA office before the all close later this year. You can then get them to do a photo copy and put a validation stamp on the copy. Then send your copy keeping the original disc to the James club or one of the other authorised motorbike clubs along with the appropriate post office form to get a V5C with the original motorbike number reinstated. It is quite easy as have just done this on two other old bikes and had them back on the road with correct number and paperwork within a few weeks. I would go over the faded writing as its easyer than trying to explane why it almost invisable, I cant make out how many months it was taxed for but it looks like the tax fee was something ending in a 3? The tax disc was issued in Berkshire and dates from 1965 and I think that is probably the last time it was used. The bikes reg is 750 HBH so it has a nice plate and this may be worth something on its own to a 750cc bike owner.
The bad bits. Everything else on the bike :)
I told you that the person I got it from said it turned over. Well strange that as when I had bike delivered I found it to be missing the piston :-( also the crank is in two parts :( still should be quite easy to source bits for this engine. Try Villiers motors. There may be the other bit or some bolts missing from the engine as was only losely put together when I got it. The wheels are shot, the centers are probably savable. The exhaust is missing and whats there is shot. All the tin work not listed in the good bits is very poor with lots of rust. The electrics all look shot. The chrome on handlebars is very poor and the leavers are stuck. The headlight shell has rusted on bottom and has no light. The seat is most probably not from this bike, but you can have it anyway to make it look a bit better when sneaking it past the wife into the garage. There are probably other bits I have missed but hopefully you get an idea of this bike from what I have said. Any more questions please ask. Cash on collection only and please do this within a week of end of auction. If you are sending a carrier to collect please let me know so we can arrange a collection day.
