Description

An interesting small mid 18th century dram glass. It is of short form and two part construction with the bowl and short stem drawn together. The conical bowl leads to the thick stem which has a waisted aspect. The stem and foot are heavily constructed giving a low centre of gravity which was a useful property for use on a ship. The foot is also thicker and heavier than usual or as required for a normal dram glass and is slightly conical in form. The pontil scar is left rough snapped as you would expect at this period.

These small glasses were usually multi-purpose and it could have been used for wines, strong ales and spirits.

The construction is of English lead glass with the slight grey tint often found during this period, and the glass dates around 1750 to the reign of George II.
