Year: 1985
Date of 1st Registration: 22/02/1985 Manufacturer: AJS FB
Mileage: 13,804 Type: trail
Engine Size: 250
I had this bike built by Fluff Brown in 1985. It has only done 13804 miles; but don't think for a minute they were easy miles! I used it mostly off road, although I did commute on it for a while and it used to make a spectacular and noisy appearance when the roads became impassable on a standard road bike due to snow!
I only used it for the first three years of it's life. It has sat unloved at the back of my garage until now. Needless to say, it is not taxed and has never had an MOT!
There are various bits that are bent or broken. It has five broken spokes in the back wheel. The handlebars are bent. the clutch and front brake levers are not a pair - the brake lever got broken and I replaced it with what ever I could get hold of at the time. the handlebar kill / dip switch is broken, but I have bought a new one which will go with the bike. The silencer needs welding. The stop light switch is broken. The tyres are worn out. the fuel tank has a couple of dents (see pic) The carb fuel pipe banjo decided to start leaking today. The rubber carb manifold is perished and cracked. The speedo cable has broken (this happened when I pulled the bike out from the back of my garage)
The bike doesn't use a battery. When you start the engine, the lights come on. there is a dip switch but no on off switch.
The bike is a non runner. When I got it out a couple of weeks back, I cleaned the carb, put some fuel in the tank and some air in the tyres and it went on the third kick. I was tearing up and down on it! I had forgotten how noisy it is! The next day it wouldn't even cough. With my limited knowledge of Motoplat ignition systems, I surmised that the ignition coil had gone down. I bought a second hand one but this only produces a very weak spark. Too weak to fire the bike up. It may be another duff coil, or the problem may be with another part of the Motoplat system. Either way, I'm flogging it as a non runner.
Although this is a one owner bike, I've just noticed that the log book has FB AJS Motorcycles as the first owner from 22-02-85 and then last change of keeper (me) on 23-02-85 So strictly speaking it's had two owners.
The log book is the old blue type and it has been off the road for so long, it has never been on a sorn. I suspect this may cause a problem putting it back on the road.
There may well be other bent or broken things on the bike - If I think of any I'll add them to the listing. Any questions please email or come and have a look.
This is collection in person only and there is no buy it now.
