Large English pocket compass sundial, circa 1850
Fine cast and turned brass case.
Jewelled moving magnetic dial with brass gnomon, printed paper dial mounted on mica, the dial has a transit lock that holds the dial against the outer ring.
The underside of the dial with bar magnet and sealing wax balancing weights.
Inside the lid a sectional paper dial for seasonal variations, some staining.
Can be dismantled as shown but fits together good and tight.
All in excellent condition and good working order, readily points north.
Diameter 2,1/2" or 64mm, weight 102 grams.
I have had many 19th century pocket sundials but not seen this model before.
Guaranteed old and original.
