Britannia Metal (Pewter Alloy)
2 Pint Teapot
1855 - 1870
This is a Lovely Hand Finished Teapot from James Allan of Sheffield.
The Teapot is made of Britannia Metal, which was a Pewter Alloy available as Sheet Metal that could be worked rather than cast.
The Teapot is 7 1/4" Tall to the top of its Finial and measures 8 3/4" from Tip of Spout to Back of Handle.
It stands on Four Small Feet at the corners of an Ornate Pedestal Skirt Base which is 3 3/4" Square.
It has a Top Rim of 3 3/8" and is roughly 5 1/4" at its Widest Diameter.
The Handle and Spout are Decorated with Ornate Leaves and the Finial has a Cascading Fuschia Flower and Bud over a Leaf.
The Lid Hinges at its Rear.
The Teapot has a Capacity of 2 Pints.
The Base is Marked "4" over "JAMES ALLAN" over "SHEFFIELD" over "1041".
James Allan used this mark between 1855 and 1872.
The Teapot is in Excellent Condition - No Scuffs or Scratches.
The Hinge on the Lid Works Well.
There is some Tea Staining on the Inside and some general Age Related Grime on the Outside.
Both could easily be removed or left "as is" to retain its Authentic Appearance.
All of my items are well packed before posting.
I have many other items for sale (including Further Pewter Items and Teapots) and will combine Postage and Packing where possible.
