Hello and welcome to our auction!
For bids today we have the distinct pleasure of offering you a gorgeous Victorian silver plated flagon.
Made by renouned silversmiths Hamilton & Inches this flagon eclipses many of its solid silver counterparts in its high quality and fine detail.
The subject of this piece is the Zodiac and around the base we are treated to twelve panels depicting the different signs in repousse.
However the asthetic banquet doesn't stop there as the designer has gone on to include an array of differing engraved patterns which band around the body and adorn the lid/spout before an initials cartouche which remains unengraved to this day(!).
As expected this 27cm high flagon immediately draws the eye when you enter the room with a shape which is bold, upright and Victorian but also somewhat delicate and artistic (evidence of which being the curled, heart end handle).
The silver plate itself also dazzles as it is such a high grade (A1) while a gilt interior seeks to continue this effect for the amused viewer.
Being around 133 years old this flagon is not without its imperfections.
These include light cleaning scratches and marks to the surface, a little patina here and there, some scratching/loss of gilt to the interior and some loss of silver plate to the lower ridge of the exterior.
Yet, these things do not detract from the piece.
Truth be told we didn't find most of them until we turned a critical eye to the flagon and if on display we doubt your guests would notice.
All in all this is a splendid chance for you to invite a wonderful piece of Victorian craftsmanship into your home.
Rarely do such high quality pieces become available so be sure to bid now and not miss it
