Times are hard and I am going to have to part with my bass and amp as I hardly play and the money is needed elsewhere.
This is the real deal for Alembic lovers - a beautiful condition 4-string 1997 5A quilted maple Alembic Series I Standard Point 34" scale bass. Hard to come by in the UK where Mark King and Stanley Clarke Signature models tend to predominate. Nothing wrong with them - they are designed to look and sound pretty close to a proper Alembic Series instrument. But this is in another league - retail price on this bass if ordered new is $14,800 for the base series I model, plus $1200 for the 5A quilted maple front and $600 for the 3A quilted maple back - a total of $16,600 (or over £10K here in the UK). Plus of course the import duty of 20%...
But this one is here in the UK, import duty paid, ready to collect or have delivered. It's been played by me only at home into my Garageband or playing along with CDs, and though the previous owner did gig it, he must have been super-careful (well, wouldn't you be??)
I have loads of high-res pics here - http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj293/pclifton2004/Alembic%20Series%20I/
or email me if you want a particular shot or details.
The bass is in tremendous condition for the age and has been well looked after - there is only one ding on the front, just above the controls and because of the nature of the quilted maple it is hard to see unless you get up close to inspect it. There is another ding on the bottom curve of the standard 'point', and a tiny scratch on the headstock. There is slight buckle rash on the back of the body at the centre section, but not penetrating the finish, just dimpled (shown in pic) and again you have to angle it to the light to see that. From a foot away the bass looks creamily perfect.
This model has had a wiring upgrade so that you get both pickups output from the mono jack. This is a stereo bass and you can if you wish split the signal from each pickup to a different amp or send one through effects and one clean, etc. This is also a very powerful bass - 18volt and with trim pots for the pickups to tame it if you need to.
Tone is classic Alembic (which can range from Entwistle to Clarke to King) - full and rounded tone that is infinitely controllable by the proprietry Alembic low pass filter/q-switch system).
Whether you have always wanted a Series I Alembic, or just see the investment value of having one of these available in the UK, you wont be disappointed.
Email me with any questions, and you are welcome to arrange to come and try it if you are seriously interested. There is no urgent rush to sell - I know the instrument's value and future value and will list it considerably lower than you would have to pay in a shop. I will just re-list it every free listing weekend until the right buyer comes along, so please no silly offers.
Oh and it comes with the original Alembic hardcase (they smell so good inside!) worth $450 itself!
Courier will be about £50 insured, or depending on location I may be able to deliver. Collection welcome.
