I already had a Kindle 3 Keyboard which is great for normal portability and it does have features the DX does not. The 3 keyboard has Wi-Fi, so if you are in a Wi-Fi area the extra battery usage is minimal and down loading and updating is much faster, the DX only has 3G. You can alter the font size on both, but you cannot alter the font style on the DX, it is fixed as Times New Roman or something similar, I am hoping Kindle can correct this by a software update. Yes it is heavier, about the weight of a decent hardback book. That’s the cons out of the way. It is bigger, and when you use diagrams and drawings, size does help. It has the auto-rotate feature which allows you to take advantage of the drawing shape. When reading text you get a decent page full of words, so you only have to page turn less than half as much. I have had a screen failure, but Kindle replaced the unit under warranty. Just be aware that the big screen is more fragile due to its size, so you must protect it. It comes with an American dictionary, color, tire, aluminum, etc, spend £20 and download the Oxford English dictionary and you can make that your default reference, you will not regret it. I still use my 3 keyboard to put in my pocket, but for preference I always use my DX when I can. Here’s another thing where all of these e-readers score, you can be reading several books at the same time, it’s a bit like watching TV, you see an episode of a program, then before you get bored with it you watch an episode of another one. You can read according to your mood even. It doesn’t get heavier even with a few hundred books loaded. I am totally sold on e-readers in general, the Kindle family with e-ink in particular and especially the large format Kindle DX.Read full review
I bought a DXG because I wanted a larger screen to read books, but didn't want a LCD screen - eInk is much easier on the eyes. This is heavier and not so portable as the 6" screens, but is ideal for reading in place - for reading on the move, I'd recommend a smaller ereader for ease of transport. Much of the weight is in the strengthening as Kindle screens are easily damaged by twisting, which is easy to do on a large ereader - especially when transporting it from place to place. IMO, it is overpriced - you can currently buy 4 6" ereaders for the price of 1 new DXG (at Amazon prices, not eBay prices). Having said all that, I now have 2 of these, for me it's the best reading experience - it's comparable to a reasonable sized hard-backed book, the 6" screens are comparable to a small paperback. Would I buy another - yes, without question.Read full review
Clear picture and great battery life 2weeks, but keep the wifi/3G off or you will get 2days. The big display is certainly great for reading articals etc. Admittedly a bit dataed, but really there is much to compair it with.
