RARE SET OF 12 TROLLOPE FAMILY COPIES
BY

HENRY TROLLOPE

AND

ONE COPY WITH A PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION

FROM

HENRY TROLLOPE TO HIS FATHER ANTHONY TROLLOPE

SHOWING ALSO HENRY TROLLOPE'S EDITORIAL COMMENTS
WRITTEN FOR
ANTHONY TROLLOPE'S INFORMATION

Trollope, Henry; [Trollope, Anthony];. A Collection of 12 Trollope Family Copies [One inscribed from Henry Trollope to his father, Anthony Trollope]; Foreign Classics for English Readers consisting of Goethe; Pascal; Rabelais; Moliere; Montaigne; St. Simon; Madame de Sevigne; Corneille and Racine; Tasso; La Fontaine Etc.; and Rosseau. London: Blackwood & Sons, 1878 et. seq.. First edition thus. A collection of 12 volumes in William Blackwood's Foreign Classics for English Readers. Each volume is in Very Good condition, with a few showing cracked hinges, some modest wear, darkening to the spine panels, and the occasional spot to the spine or the boards. St. Simon shows bubbling to the cloth and there is an internal crack to the front board of Madame de Sevigne. The volumes also show the bookplate and/or ownership notation of the prior owner(s) not known to us, with one such bookplate having been partially removed. Notably, each volume other than "Pascal" shows a Trollope family association as indicated in this description. The titles consist of Goethe (1878) with Anthony Trollope's bookplate and shelf location sticker; Pascal (1878); Rabelais (1879) with Anthony Trollope's bookplate; Moliere (1879) with Anthony Trollope's bookplate; Montaigne (1879) with Anthony Trollope's bookplate; St. Simon (1880) with Anthony Trollope's bookplate; Madame de Sevigne (1881) with Henry M. Trollope's bookplate; Corneille and Racine, two copies (1881), one with Anthony Trollope's bookplate and one with Henry M. Trollope's bookplate; Tasso (1882) with Henry M. Trollope's ownership signature to the front free endpaper; La Fontaine Etc. (1882) with Henry M. Trollope's bookplate; and Rosseau (1882) with Henry M. Trollope's bookplate. "Corneille and Racine" was authored by Henry M. Trollope, Anthony Trollope's son, and the copy bearing Anthony Trollope's bookplate is a PRESENTATION COPY FROM HENRY TROLLOPE TO ANTHONY TROLLOPE. The presentation, located on the half-title, reads: "Anthony Trollope / from his affectionate son / Harry Trollope". The book also contains a number of ANNOTATIONS AND CORRECTIONS IN HENRY TROLLOPE'S HAND. Trollope family copies are quite scarce to the market and a set containing this many Trollope family copies is RARE INDEED. A COLLECTION-DISTINGUISHING SET OF TROLLOPE FAMILY COPIES. Very Good. Hardcover. (#00003759)
