A beautiful antique, 19th Century (c1850) Clichy Close-pack paperweight with a double garland, single garlands are fairly common doubles are not.
The paperweight consists of 125 complex canes, 66 in the centre section then a garland of 26 alternating canes one made up of 5, flower centre yellow, blue and white rods the second a complex cane of tiny white flowers with red, blue and green centres encased in blue. Then an outer garland of 33 green moss canes all on a clear ground. There are some outstanding complex canes in this weight as can be seen in the photos below.
A very attractive weight in very good condition, there is one very shallow bruise on the side and a small crescent moon knock near by and some very light surface marks commensurate with it's age (see last two photos below). They really do not detract from the viewing of the paperweight and I have had to angle them into the light and enlarge them to make them clearly visible in the photos, they could be very easily polished out if desired.
65mm diameter and 40mm high (2 9/16" x 1 5/8").
