Antique Native American Indian Beaded Bag / Great Plains-Plateau-Souix-Cheyenne

Very fine fully beaded antique Native American bag from the Northern Great Plains.

The exact tribal origin is unknown to me, but possibly Blackfoot, Sioux, Crow, Assiniboine,Nez Perce, Plateau, or Cheyenne.

Circa 1890s - 1910s.

Width - 7" / Height (without handle) - 6.5"

The decoration is very stylized, almost abstract, and consists of floral designs on both the front and back. The beadwork was done on a linen body, which can be seen on the inside, and the bag has red silk borders at the edges. The silk edges are decorated with multicolor beads looped around it at intervals.

The cover flap at the top closes with an old commercial brass snap. The handle looks to be loom-woven.

The beads are very small and of the older colors, including, white-heart red, grease yello, small uneven white, etc.

This antique Indian bag is in excellent condition with no damage or missing beads. The red silk edging has faded a bit, but is intact. The brass snaps have developed a green patina, and there is some slight wear to the upper edge of the front, underthe flap. The handle is intact.

This is a fine example of Indian beadwork and in great condition to display.

This item will be a museum quality addition to any collection of Native American or Western arts and crafts and will display beautifully in any Southwest, Midwest, Ethnographic, or Tribal decor.
