Item specifics

Product: Boxes Age: 1900-1940
Product Sub-Type: Cutlery Boxes Original/Repro: Original

Oak cutlery canteen box with set of 6 tea knives and forks made by cutlers to King George the 5th, Joseph Rodgers and Sons of Sheffield.

The knives are stamped RODGERS EPNS followed by star and cross.  Forks are not stamped but only because it is not suitable with the rounded and delicate shape.  They are definitely a set.  All collars are solid silver and hallmarked for Sheffield 1932, makers mark JB (which was a silver collar manufacturer at the time)

Handles are ox bone.  The knives have no cracks but the forks have some.  The knives have an engraved design on the front.

Plaque inside box is stamped BRIT PAT No 379507

Knife blades measure 4" and total length is 7.25"

Inside of box is fitted with black velvet and a cream/champagne satin.  The fasteners/clips are brass and snap open and shut as they should do.

The box is truly wonderful with a central oval brass lozenge.  It measures 6.25" by 9" and has a wonderful stepped edge design on the top.  There are no scratches or cracks in the wood.

Paypal only, shipping is £12 to UK and £22 to rest of world
