Beautiful Colourful Used Antique Christmas Greeting POSTCARD - Snow scene of a Mill, sunset, man & his dog and Poinsettias 1923 - Made in USA by Wolf & Co NY with logo

This card pictures a lovely detailed snow scene just as the sun is setting, showing a mill with lit windows, beside a river, a man walking with his dog and red poinsettias in the foreground.  The colours are vibrant!  The Greeting says "The Joy of Christmastide be with you".  Printed in the bottom left corner is "Wolf & Co NY Made in USA".  The reverse of the card has the company logo with a wolf in a mapped world medallion with a W saying Trademark.  The greeting is written in fountain pen "From Janet, Miss Madge Staines RR 4 St Catherines ONT" and there is a clear postmark showing "St Catherines ONT 7 pm Dec 18 1923". There is a light watermark over the written address - perhaps the stamp was steamed off?.  There are no marks on the face with slight darkening of the paper over time.  The edges and corners are a little worn but there are no creases.  The postcard measures 5 1/2 inches x 3 1/2 inches. A lovely Xmas card!!  

STORY:  I discovered a treasure!  A large estate lot of greeting and postcards, all belonging to one person named Marjorie Staines with 3 distinct addresses over the years, in Ontario Canada, including St. Catherines, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Virgil.  All the cards that have reference dates or postmarks are in the range of 1901 to 1924 and many were addressed as though "Madge" (as she was frequently called) was a little girl.  Some are direct references to World War 1 and I think her brother "Will" or "Willie" was away fighting in France.  She also had a brother named Arthur.  Many cards came from Britain from a special Auntie, and others were from the USA or Germany from other relatives, teachers, and friends.  As a lot, they told a little of the history of this young lady.  Her birthday fell near to Eastertime. Most have some stains or scuff marks, most are used, a few still have the original postage stamps and some are postmarked with a date.  They were saved and preserved with love and most have no creases, just a little edge wear.  All have retained their vibrant colouring. There are some with ink transfer stains from the fountain pens of the day.  Check each listing and I will try to describe each as best as possible.  A GREAT record of personal history and the artwork of the time period!!
