Seller notes: Please see photos - some losses on the outside of box.

This auction is for an empty napkin ring box with space for a pair of what would have been silver napkins I'm sure but sadly they are missing!  On the inside of the lid is the name Godwin & Son. Manufacturing Silversmiths & Jewellers - 304 High Holborn, London, Established 1801. Also "By Special Appointment to His Highness The Khedive of Egypt". The box measures about 14.5cm x 8.5cm x 6cm high.

From what I have been able to find out the jewellers became a limited company Godwin & Son in 1905 and went out of business in 1906 so this would be the date of the box I assume.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khedive

The term Khedive (Turkish: Hidiv, from classical Persian, khodây, "lord")) is a title largely equivalent to the English word viceroy. It was first used, without official recognition, by Muhammad Ali Pasha (Turkish: Kavalali Mehmet Ali Pasa, General Muhammad Ali of Kavala), the Wali (Governor) of Egypt and Sudan, and vassal of the Ottoman Empire. The initially self-declared title was officially recognized by the Ottoman government in 1867, and used subsequently by Ismail Pasha, and his dynastic successors until 1914.[1]
