Antique Victorian watercolour painting St. John the baptist with a lamb Murillo (after).

Murillo, Bartolome Esteban (after) (1618-1682) Spanish.

A really superb (after) watercolour painting of 'The Infant St. John the baptist with the Lamb', one of Murillo's well known pieces of art.

Murillo was the leading painter in Seville in the later 17th century. He remained one of the most admired and popular of all European artists in the 18th and early 19th centuries. His early works were much influenced by the early works of Velázquez, executed before Velázquez left Seville in 1623, and by the paintings of Zurbarán.

Murillo's first famous cycle of paintings was produced for the cloister of the convent of San Francisco in Seville (1645). There followed paintings for the cathedral (1658), and a celebrated series for the church of the Caridad (1667-70), including the National Gallery's 'Christ healing the Paralytic at the Pool of Bethesda'.

Visits to Madrid (one certainly in 1658) would have made Murillo familiar with works by Rubens and Van Dyck and contemporary Italian painters. His style became increasingly free in its handling, as is apparent in his many well-known representations of the Immaculate Conception.

This painting is an After (ie. A later copy) and i would say it was painted in the victorian era. There is no info to be seen on the artist that painted this but only 1 corner has been unmounted so there maybe more info to uncover.

It is mounted in a glazed wooden frame with a beaded design.

In fairly good condition with no apparent damage though it would probably benefit from a clean. One of the corners of the painting has been unmounted to uncover information about the piece some time in the past but not by me. It has uncovered some writing in pencil on the back of the painting: St john & the lamb, Murillo (i believe it says). There are also various dimensions written in pencil.

The frame is in good condition with the odd knock and scratch and is marked BLK 52 which may be a date of 1852 but i cant be certain. Pretty much all of the aged mounting tape has been removed though there are still a couple of little pieces left on which helps dating the painting and frame.

The painting measures Approx 51cm x 42cm including the frame.

The painting in view measures 26.5cm x 17.5cm.

Please see the large pictures below for a better understanding of its condition.

Our policies:

Payment is to be made within 7 days after the auction has ended.

Ebay sellers including ourselves have no control regarding delivery times, just dispatch times. We always dispatch our items within 3 days after receiving cleared payment.

In the case of non reciept of or damage to your item we are happy to investigate the matter thoroughly and may ask you to allow up to 36 days for delivery as this is the time required before being able to make a claim with Royal Mail.

In the case of the buyer receiving a damaged item, a return may be accepted and/or a refund may be issued in the appropriate circumstances after receiving photographic evidence of the damaged item.

If a failed attempt is made to deliver the parcel and you fail to collect the parcel from the sorting office it will be sent back to us, we will then require additional payment for the redispatch of the parcel.

36 days is the minimum time period that is accepted by Royal Mail before allowing any claims for insurance in the case of loss or damage.

All of our items are wrapped to an appropriate standard to save them from damage in the post.

For every item listed we try very hard to provide accurate postage costs. Sometimes however we do fail due to unforseen circumstances including additional and non-additional packaging requirements.

Please understand that postage charges don't just cover the service charge, they cover all other hidden costs as well ie:-

* Petrol and parking costs.

* Quality packaging (subject to availability) including: bubble wrap, envelopes, fragile stickers, address and return address labels, ink/pens, boxes, cellotape, parcel tape, fragile and fragile glass tape.

* Time spent wrapping parcels and taking them to the post office (a timely process).

Recycled packaging is also used, which is our part in reducing environmental waste.

Unless another P&P price is quoted, International postage fees are based on the destination it would cost the most to post to as it is not possible to list the rates for every destination.

It is very difficult in most cases to predict the postage charge.

Sometimes we do notice that the postage charged is too much and so we do issue a refund of the difference, however due to the high volume of parcels posted we do also miss this sometimes and so please feel free to contact us if the postage charged is more than 10% greater than what it cost us to post (minimum fee of 50p), and a refund of the difference will be issued. The 10% extra on top of the postage costs is the money that covers the hidden postage fees as mentioned above and is already included in the postage fee charged to the buyer.

If the buyer has 10 feedback or less and he/she doesn't reply to a 'confirmation of purchase' message then we reserve the right to cancel the bid. This is due to the increase of low feedback buyers not paying for their items.

As soon as you have received your item and you are happy with your purchase, we ask kindly if you will leave us positive feedback and in the case you are not happy, to contact us so we can resolve any issue amicably.

We require the buyer to leave feedback first due to the increased number of buyers abusing the feedback system. On a few occasions we have known buyers to leave inappropriate feedback due to them not reading the listing properly and not thoroughly viewing the large pictures provided in the listing. In the case of this happening, appropriate feedback wil be left in return. We have also had a buyer trying to bribe us by asking for a part refund in return for positive feedback, this simply will not be tolerated and any bribery or abuse will be instantly reported to ebay who takes both of these problems very serious.

If you should have any problems with your purchase please feel free to contact me through the ebay messaging system regarding the matter.

If more than one item is purchased from me I will combine postage where possible.

Please feel free to view other items I have for sale.

Thanks for reading and happy shopping.
