This is an authentic, rare, Whitefriars, aubergine, textured hoop vase, pattern number 9860.
Designed by the late great Geoffrey Baxter, as part of his iconic 60s textured range.
The original textured moulds were produced by Geoffrey Baxter, in his spare time, and were made from objects including bark and nails. The textured hoop vases were made between 1966-1973.
Aubergine is certainly one of the rarer and most sought-after of all the produced textured hoop vases.
This stunning aubergine textured hoop vase is in superb condition, no nasty chips, fleabites, scratches, or restoration, does have some very tiny light surface scratches to the base, commensurate with it's 43 years of age, nothing unusual.
Dimensions as follows
Height: 11.25 inches or 28.3 cm
Diameter: 3 inches or 7.5 cm (narrowest point)
Diameter: 4.75 inches or 12 cm (widest hoop)
Weight: 4lb or 1.8 kg
This vase does have the odd very tiny manufacturing firing bubble, small bubbles and inclusions/imperfections are all part and parcel of Whitefriars hand made glass and are not considered defects or flaws. In fact I'd be more concerned if it didn't have any bubbles, most genuine honest pieces of Whitefriars glass do have some tiny bubbles.
The colour is a beautiful crystal clear deep aubergine as you can see from the photos.
I've took a picture of the pontil to show it's authenticity and weight is another way of detecting authenticity. There are other ways as well, UV test.
If you're intending to purchase a piece of Whitefriars glass, please be careful, because there are fakes about. These pieces of Whitefriars glass have become so very collectable and sought-after (hence the fakes).
An antique that's appreciating in value, today’s investment will become tomorrow’s heirloom, (better than keeping your money in the bank).
I've only got one, and once it's gone .... it's gone. You might never find another one this good, and if there's one thing I've learned about antiques, when items are of quality and extremely rare he who hesitates, normally ends up losing out.
Again let me reiterate, 100% genuine, there's plenty of pieces of Whitefriars glass for sale, but you try and find an authentic Whitefriars textured hoop vase, these just don't come up for sale that often, also I don't think my photos are doing this vase true justice.
This beautiful rare aubergine textured hoop vase will be sent out recorded, special delivery with insurance.
Please note, all my international postal charges are only estimates and will be confirmed and altered up or down when I know the destination to where, items are being sent. Please also note I only charge actual costs of postage and packaging with insurance, no more.
If anyone has a large aubergine drunken bricklayer they're contemplating selling, please feel free to get in touch, because I would be interested in purchasing it, for my own collection.
Please feel free to look at my other items.
