BATTLEFIELDS OF NORTHERN FRANCE
AND THE LOW COUNTRIES
MICHAEL JOSEPH: LONDON
Agincourt, Cambrai, Omaha Beach, Ypres, the Somme...some of the most dramatic battles in history, particularly during the two World Wars, took place in 'the Cockpit of Europe'. They are fascinating to visit and close to routes which make them easily accessible to modern tourists.
Michael Glover selects and comments on the battlefields. He explains just why and how the battles took place, choosing battlegrounds that to a large extent still exist and which still give the visitor a clear impression of their past. Detailed travel information makes the visit easy for today's traveller.
Each battle is dealt with in three sections, first the background and influences which led up to the action are described. This is followed by a guide to the ground, showing precisely how the battle was fought and how the scene looks today. The third section contains penetrating accounts of nearby places, people, events, weapons, tactics or inspired works of art, which give the reader special insight into the reality and atmosphere of the battle.
The reader is encouraged to share the feelings and intentions of both soldier and general as, faced with sometimes overwhelming problems, difficult terrain and impossible odds, they attempted to win wars which the politicians were unable to end by other means.
Visiting these battlefields will bring substance and understanding to those historic and evocative names.

I work hard to keep the cost of shipping to a minimum whilst maintaining a high standard and do not profit from the shipping cost.
As a book buyer myself I always send books out as I would wish to receive them.
I am happy to combine shipping and for purchases of 3 or more books the savings can be substantial (more than the ebay discount shown). Please contact me for full details, providing your location and the items you are interested in for a quote; or just wait for the invoice and I will find the best options for you.
UK buyers please note Royal Mail changes introduced on 2/4/13 means it is often cheaper to send books separately (crazy but true)
If you have any other requirements please ask I will be happy to help (I want to sell my books). If you want to complain about the cost of stamps please contact the Royal Mail.
