In the words of the Beastie Boys "Here's a little something for ya......"
B&O really should have offered this very cool , sophisticated, and yet still very 80's speaker fabric as a standard.
I have not seen anyone offer these gorgeous Redline speakers in anything other than black or the old knackered , dusty, snagged, original covers from 30 years ago so this is my attempt to change that. I hope you like it.
If I get a good reaction on eBay, in addition to the great reaction I've had outside Ebay, then I will list more of them across the different models/sizes.
The speakers are in very good condition functionally and obviously cosmetically.
They have been serviced and there is NO foam rot of any kind. The Woofers are all mounted in pristine rubber surrounds, the internals are nice and all fixings checked.
The bass unit is a "port" design not the old "look at me and I will disintegrate" ABR unit that plagued the RL45 & RL60 models. You will not have any issues with them.
The original straps were snapped so i searched high and low for a suitable replacement. Ideally what I wanted was a brushed Aluminium band/strap of some kind but you can't get it without having it manufactured so...... I settled for Black velvet ribbon which works nicely with the tweed effect without looking cheap and shiny. You can have a play and change the ribbons as often as you change your pants if it pleases you... I guess a bright red might add a certain 80's Je n'sais Wow.
The Speakers do not come with stands but do stand up of their own accord in "landscape" position. They did originally come with a small support at the back but i have never seen one in the flesh. You can see it in the photos on the link below. They can also be wall mounted either way up using the holes provided.
The fabric is a proper, acoustically transparent, speaker fabric purchased from a specialist at £13 a meter. It is a different weave to the original and slightly thicker. That combined with the two tone colouring makes it hard to retain the Bang & Olufsen logo on these smaller speakers unfortunately. Its ok on the RL60's upwards but gets lost on these. Personally i don't think it detracts from the overall look your buying here and is well worth the small sacrifice.
The sound quality is excellent - I have run them off a Beomaster 4500, a rotel 810, and a tripath class T amp and they sounded great off all three.
(The Tripath was an eye opener . I have never experienced a truly 3d sound stage before and it was a a real surprise especially given what i paid for it)
They look gorgeous, sound great...and are a bit different and all for a bargain price.
Why wouldn't you just whip your credit card out right now - it would be churlish not to!!
You could go and buy a pair of Wharfdale diamonds for the same price, or less, but they are soulless and probably don't sound as good. These are beautiful and may even help you attract members of the opposite sex...especially if you are wearing Lynx and are covered in pheromones.
Usually I list at 99p with no reserve but on this occasion I don't want to give away my time, effort, and investment for free - a set of re-covered RL45.2 went last week for £189 BIN on here so I think this is reasonable given the time and cash investment in this project.
If I have missed anything out or got something wrong just shout. All feedback gratefully received during the auction...don't by shy.
The international postage quote is a pure guess and I will not be held to it.
Do your own research before you bid and ensure you can afford the actual postage ( weight = circa 10 KG) .
