I purchased this DVD for a nostalgia trip and that's what I got. I started watching this show about 16 years ago and I haven't stopped yet. Many characters have passed by and some I almost forgot about. This DVD helps you relive some of the good Emmerdale moments. For my own personal taste, I might have added a couple of different episodes and taken away a few others but all in all, you get the best of the best. How about this for a small surprise... The first time the actor of Rev. Ashley Thomas appeared in Emmerdale, was as a policeman in a single episode. See if you can spot him. My favorite episode is the plane crash, however there's a rare VHS that has one more episode, concluding it better but does it feel like a trip back in time! This 2 set DVD is worth the money. It's a keeper!
Hi folks. As a young man, I remember watching a couple of episodes of Emmerdale (known then as Emmerdale Farm) that featured a plane crash. It was a controversial screening at the time coming only 9 years after the Lockerbie disaster although the drama itself did not bare any similarity to the terrorist attack in 1988 other than the plane coming down in a close knit rural community and the loss of life. Anyone who watched these 2 episodes was shocked at the realism of the story. These days, it seems that soap directors have a penchant for controversial story lines and on the odd occasion cull a number characters in one foul swoop. Back then, this was quite a new concept. For many years, I had tried, in vain, to obtain a copy of these 2 episodes. Having been an avid user of Ebay for only a few years, I thought I would try my luck to see if anyone was selling a copy. They were! I bid and won! I also saved myself a few quid too. HMV and Play.com had copies for sale but I couldn't justify paying the price they were asking just for 2 episodes. My decision to bid for this item was based mainly on price and availability. I was willing to forgo convenience for the sake of a great deal. When it comes down to it, this is by far the greatest incentive for buyers on Ebay. As for the DVD? Although age has tempered the explosive nature of the story line (I think I have become more battle hardened and impervious to disasters over the years!), it still has that unusual shock factor quite unique and unexpected for a soap. There's no one buried under a patio. No lesbian first kiss witnessed on TV. However, it has an entertainment value usually only reserved for movie goers. That is what is what clinches it for me.
